The following are screen shots of Valerie's house as featured from Kris TV.
The house of Valerie Concepcion is located on a corner lot thus it really looks big. The interior inside the house is simple yet classy. Valerie is currently sharing the house with her parents and siblings.
A wise move from Valerie!

I was looking for best deals online and found this very cute sports organizer which I think is perfect for boys room. It's true, with the absence of an organizer, we have the tendency to put our precious sports equipment elsewhere. Normally, we are having difficulty finding these things as these are just scattered in the room. With this organizer, we can be assured that these sports equipment will be in perfect shape and will not be misplaced. Not to mention that it looks cute. I think this is also washable.
Just perfect for our boys room.

I've seen some ads on TV and online about the hand held fabric steamer and I was really thinking to have one. I think this is a handy companion in the house to think that some linens like curtains and blankets are really hard to straighten out using the ordinary flat iron. I've seen a lot of reviews saying that handheld fabric steamer is an effective tool in wrinkle removal. All you have to do is to hang the fabric and just move the fabric steamer up and down while it dispenses a continuous flow of steam. If you want, you can also use this for pants. The fabric steamer can be adjusted according to the right amount of steam that is suitable for the fabric type.
I think this is worth a try. This also comes with a storage bag and can be brought along with you during your travels. However, this fabric steamer is available on various brands, so I suggest that before you purchase this, you must take time to read some product reviews online so you would be able to get the best brand available. So far, the Rowenta Handheld Fabric Steamer is the one getting good reviews. Better do a research first to get your money's worth. I think this is priced at about $30.
I would certainly love to have one.

I've mentioned on one of my posts at my main blog Life's Tips And Tricks, that one of my goals for this year is to be able to have an additional canopy in place in my house. I am actually planning to put it at the left side of my house to give a shade in case of heavy rains. What I've figured out is something similar to this picture but I wanted to put a light weight cover on top of the wooden canopy.
I guess, this type of canopy design will never go wrong, it's chic and simple and it's color can be changed from time to time like it can be painted with black, with white or just apply a dark mahogany varnish.
What do you think?

As a wife and a Mom to two kids, I am very much concern about how to stick with our budget without compromising the needs of my family. Now that I am based overseas, I can only go as far as supervising my kids but I am not in full control of what they eat. For this reason, I have that growing concern on how to ensure a healthy life style for the family without getting much difficulty stretching out the budget. The rising cost of medicines and health care services has been putting up so much constraint on my pocket. Since I cannot be with my kids 24 hours a day, I just try to make sure that they are getting the right dose of vitamins each day to protect them from common illnesses brought about by their busy life style and unhealthy environment. But I noticed that as they grow older, their needs become more complex. As a result, I have to find ways and means to tighten up the budget. Good thing that there are so many options available now a days such as having a medical insurance or getting a health card. Browsing online, I found out that there are even more options available like joining prescription savings club.
Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens is offering an annual membership loaded with a number of benefits such as:
For $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and pets. Individuals may join for $5. Join and receive discount prices on your prescriptions.
Other benefits include:
-Savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications
-Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies
-Bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services
Nothing can beat the peace of mind, knowing that we are in full control of our expenses. Savings does not only pertain to literally setting a part of your income to cover for emergencies. Savings can also mean cutting down on your expenses. Getting huge discounts on our purchase of medicines and availing of health care services translates to a bigger savings. This savings can be used for more important needs such as foods and education for our children. It pays to be healthy but in most cases, it pays to be smart.
Support Walgreens and stay updated by liking them on Facebook and following them on Twitter @Walgreens.

Home Sweet Home would like to greet everyone a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year. So what you should normally do in your homes prior to the celebration?
1.) Clean your house to get rid of bad energies and attract positive aura.
2.) Decorate your house with red lanterns as color red is believed to scare bad
spirits and chase them away.
3.) Fill those platters with Mandarin oranges and other citrus fruits.
4.) Fill those trays with candies and dried fruits.
5.) Get a hair cut and prepare your new red clothes.
Well....well...well...these are only common practices by our brothers and sisters in the Chinese community but true or not true, there's no harm in trying. :)

Take a peek on Pokwang's lovely haven. Photos below are just screen shots from ABS-CBN Kris TV.
Looking at Pokwang' house during that particular episode at Kris TV had made me admired this humble celebrity who still remains "low profile" despite of all her achievements. She is not as big as other famous showbiz personalities but her kind of house can attest to the fact that nothing is impossible for someone who has a sheer determination to succeed and reach his or her own dream.
Patience, hard work and discipline is the key and we all have to take it from Poky. She is indeed a star in her own right and a one bright shining star on the eyes of her family!
Thumbs up Poky!

As a home maker myself, the greatest challenge for me is how to stick to my budget. With the rising cost of food products, it's getting quite tough to work out on a budget without getting stressed out and one good way of trimming your budget is to find ways to save in your kitchen.
It's really a big challenge for us moms to manage our kitchen wisely. In my case, I have a daughter who loves to eat meats and very little of vegetables and most of the times, she would request beef over chicken or pork. The greatest challenge is, how to make your kids eat the foods that you prepare without being hard on your budget. In my case, I would always stock on ground beef or pork. It's considered mom's best friend. You can mix it with chopped carrots, bell pepper, whte onions, celery or kinchay, a dash of salt and black pepper and you're on your way to a number of possible dishes. You can choose to make hamburger patties for breakfast, lumpiang shanghai for dinner, siomai and dumplings for snack or "baon" and meatballs for your spaghetti or soup. That's not the end of it, you may also want to use your ground beef mixture as a flavoring for your sauteed vegetables or you may want to stuff those large bell peppers or bitter gourd (ampalaya) for an instant relleno. Just add a little bit of meat extenders and hard boiled eggs combined with an additional seasonings and you will end up having your special embutido. You may be surprise that this comes cheaper, too.
When you cook "sinigang" or "nilaga" for lunch, you may get worried that a kilo of pork or beef won't last until dinner for a family of 5 to 6. Normally, in this case, the left over soup with vegetables minus the meat can still be served during dinner, just add up some "daing na bangus" or crunchy fried "tilapia". This is far way cheaper than coking another dish using another kilo of pork or beef for dinner.
Sometimes, it's also good to stock up on chicken backs as flavoring for soups instead of choosing thighs or wings or the entire chicken itself. Just add up some veggies and potatoes or add some macaroni noodles for your "sopas".
Buy fruits and vegetables in season. It's much much cheaper.
Portion your meats, fish and vegetables right after having been in the market so it would be a lot easier for you to estimate the amount to be consumed based on your menu plan for the week. Dahon ng sili or kangkong must go first before the carrots, cabbage and potatoes to avoid spoilage.
When you want to keep your left over food in the fridge, allow it to cool down first to make it lasts longer.
Reheat only the amount of food that you can consume in one serving. Foods are easier to get spoiled when you keep on reheating.
If your refrigerator does not automatically defrost, make it a habit to defrost it before you go on your next visit to the wet market. In my case, I would turn off the ref before I go to the market, clean it and take out the left over stock for inventory. I will turn the ref on after I came back to the house to store my new stock of fresh foods. This could save you some bucks in your electric consumption too, aside from having your ref cleaned and checked prior to storing new stock of fresh foods.
Make your atchara or pickled vegetables beforehand and store these on clean jars so you can save on time and avoid the veggies to get spoiled before you decide to make one. These bottled preserves are perfect to complement your fried fish or pork for dinner.
There are still a lot of ways to save in the kitchen, all we have to do is to look around, make a plan and research for ideas and tips and you are on your way to becoming a frugal mom.

I am totally new to a glass house. I have lots of ideas when it comes to house designs and decorations but the idea of a glass house really never gets into my mind until I happened to see this episode on Rated K where the host Korina Sanchez featured "glass houses" of celebrity Mon Confiado and one professor from UP Diliman.
I just can't imagine how it is to live in a glass house where everybody can see your every move inside your own house. I was also thinking if this kind of house would be safe. But, looking at the glass house itself, I find it very elegant. In the house of Mon Confiado, 70% of the materials used is made of glass from the walls, cabinets, pantry area, divider in the shower room...everything is made up of glass. Your privacy in this kind of house is really at stake but like what actor Mon Confiado said, he is not hiding anything nor he has any pretensions or inhibitions, so he is not bothered at all living in a glass house.
But as for me, who has always been a very private person, I could not imagine myself living in this kind of house.
How about you? Would you love to live in a glass house?

Happiness is....acquiring my own house!
It is everybody's dream to own a house where you and the whole family can stay. it's nice to know that after a hard day's work, you'll be going back to your own home. It doesn't matter if your house is basic and simple. What matters most is that you can stay in a place which you can call your own. The house on the photo is our second home. It was built when my daughter was just starting in primary school. We had acquired this 7 years after we had our first home. Now, I find great pleasure working on some improvements to this house and this really inspires me to work harder and make my house a better place to live in. Not only for me but for my family. :)

This pocket garden was one of my projects for 2010 and this never fails to excite me every time I am in the house. The calm and relaxing sound of our mini water falls plus the cute garden ornaments around the area has made everything looks so colorful and vibrant. This has always been one of my favorite spot in the house.
