Checklist For Moving Out Of Rented Accommodation

Everyone knows that moving house can be one of the most stressful things to deal with. On top of getting everything into your new home you have to make sure that your old accommodation is up to standard. When you move out of a flat or house it is your duty to ensure you leave it in the same way you found it.

If you are new to renting or haven’t moved house yet then you might not know about all the things you are expected to do. If you don’t do things properly then you could end up getting charged and losing some of your deposit. Here is a short checklist of some of the most important things you need to do and some things people forget to do when moving out.

Remove Rubbish

It’s surprising just how much rubbish builds up when you are moving out. You will probably have more rubbish than you think. After you have gone through all the rooms in your house then you will probably have a huge amount of bin bags. You can’t just leave them by the rubbish bin, if they don’t fit then you need to take them to your local rubbish tip. Make sure you set aside time to do this because if you forget you could get charged.

Clear Every Room

This sounds a bit obvious but when you move out you need to ensure that every room is completely cleared out. You can’t leave anything behind so double check you have enough transport and storage space to fit all your belongings in. When you think you have cleared the house go through each room and check every cupboard and draw, you don’t want to leave anything behind.

 Tidy Up The Garden

This is something that a lot of tenants forget to do, but it is important that you leave a tidy garden. Cut the grass and clear any weeds and rubbish before you depart. It might take a bit of time but if you don’t do it your landlord might charge you.

 Deep Clean

Even if you love cleaning you might not have time to clean your whole house inside out before you go. Cleaning standards and expectations are also very high when it comes to moving out of rented accommodation. It’s definitely worth paying a professional to deep clean your old house or flat. That way you know it will be cleaned to a very good standard.

Fix Anything Broken

Once you have cleared everything out you need to do a detailed check of the whole house. Check every room for any damages, marks or broken furniture. Try and fix as much as possible before you leave so that you reduce the chance of losing some of your deposit.

Got Pets?

If you have had pets in your rented accommodation then you will probably be expected to get carpets cleaned professionally. Some landlords will ask that you fumigate everywhere for health and safety reasons. Check with your landlord and make sure you honour your agreement.

Clearance And Cleanup provide house clearance, garden waste removal and waste disposal in and around Yorkshire.

Making A Small Bathroom Stand Out

If you have a limited space for your toilet and bathroom but you still want it to appear interesting, you can try adding up some colors.  In this bathroom design, an attractive wall finish was applied to form a contrast against the plain white color of the toilet bowl and lavatory.  A nicely framed wall mirror with a matching pin light complements the whole set up.  This is great for a girl's room!

Furniture Stores Can Help You Redesign Your Home

Are you tired of your home? Wanting to mix it up the interior? Looking to change around some pictures or buy new furniture? Many people would like to redecorate, but are unsure of how to go about it. Lucky for your, there are an array of St. Petersburg furniture stores that employ decorators who are ready to help. Before you hire anyone to do your design, here are some fundamental elements to consider.

Basics
The basics of interior design to be aware of are color, form, line, mass, and texture. Color will lead your room in a direction. It changes the mood depending on which color you choose and the depth, warmth/coolness, and shade. Form defines the shape of the objects in a room. Be sure to have a rhyme and reason to the forms you choose. Line is the direction the room focuses on. Mass is referring to the size of the items in the room. Texture is how items feel and look. Texture, like color, makes a big difference in the overall message of the room.

Elements
The elements to be knowledgeable about are the focal point, scale and proportion, harmony and unity, contrast, and variety. The focal point draws the most attention in the room and everything else is placed in reference to the focal point. This is often a bed, TV, piano, or a grand piece of artwork. Scale is the size of an object and proportion is how items relate to each other in terms of size. Be sure to measure your room and the objects you wish to put in it. Harmony refers to the way elements complement each other and work together, and unity speaks of their belonging together. These are important elements to make sure that the room flows well and doesn’t feel over done. Contrast simply means the disparity between any of the elements and must be taken on with care. Variety will make the room unique and interesting. After reading this, you are now ready to either take on your own designing or find an interior decorator at one of many St. Petersburg furniture stores to help you express yourself through the art of interior design.

Why You Should Think About Installing Motorized Blinds

Are you sick of untangling your living room blinds every time you want to let some natural light into your home? Or have you had several scary run-ins between your pets and children with your current blinds? If so, then it might benefit you to check out motorized blinds. If you’re looking for the safest option available, then motorized blinds are your best bet. Period.

Stylish Outdoor Retreat On A Budget

I love the way this backyard was transformed into a stylish outdoor retreat!  Without using any concrete, the space was given a certain kind of privacy by using a wood slat panel.  The overall design was not compromised as the wood slat panel actually matches the improvised outdoor furniture.  Simple plastic chairs plus few pieces of potted plants complete the set up.

On Creating A Music Room

Last weekend, I had the chance to watch a concert via DVD.  I was mesmerized with the good quality of sound.  The show was really spectacular.  The performance of the artists deserved a standing ovation.  What they said is true, music touches our hearts as well as our souls.  It lifts up our spirits.  Sometimes, we relate our lives with music and we normally get inspiration from the lyrics of the songs we constantly hear.  I remembered my daughter once requested to have a music room in the house or an entertainment room.  I told her that it would be ideal but not practical.  From the family she is the only one who is inclined into music, so the room would just be put to into waste should we decided to create one.  I remembered that she fancied about owning a new art preamp at guitar center.   She always admires great stuff related to her hobby.  I also think that a music room would  be a good addition to the house but If I have a spare room, I would rather convert it into a home office or a study room.  But I am happy that my daughter is pursuing her hobby.  I hope that she would be able to continue it longer and improve on her skills.  A Music Room in the house would be far from my priorities at the moment, but who knows. :)

Outdoor Space In An Instant

If you are expecting a private gathering on a weekend and you don't have much time left to fix your yard for the occasion, don't fret!  This instant outdoor space is ideal for an intimate gathering.  This gazebo is also ideal for  formal occasions such as debut or garden weddings.  I actually thought of fabricating one for our yard but because of my busy schedule every time I'm home for a vacation, the plan has been shelved a number of times. :)

But you see, the "instant outdoor space" can be fixed in less than two hours.  Plant of different varieties, height and texture in cute garden containers plus a revived outdoor furniture are all you need for that quick fixed outdoor area.  I think it would also be perfect if you would add up some tea lights around the area and mason jars all over the gazebo for an added drama. :)

Choosing The Right Style Of Conservatory Blinds

Whether you are designing a contemporary conservatory or a room with a more classical look you can find set of conservatory blinds that will provide you with exactly the look, and feature that you really desired in your sun room. The conservatory has many potential uses and the flexibility on offer with most types of blinds is another reason that they are so popular with buyers and homeowners, designers, and those that are renting a home.

The choice of styles available as conservatory blinds means that you can create exactly the style you want in your conservatory. Whether you have just had yours fitted or you are looking for new blinds to replace existing and tired looking blinds, you will also be able to choose the material, size, and dimensions that enable you to create coverings for all of the windows in your conservatory, even the top windows.

The conservatory is a challenging environment for any window covering. There is a lot of glass to cover and the shape of the conservatory also means that you will usually need a selection of blinds, at least one for each wall. Furthermore, the fact that it catches so much of the sun means that some materials are simply not a good choice when opting for something to hang in the window all day every day. Flexibility is also vital so that you can open or close the blinds as much as necessary to keep out the sun or provide privacy.

Pleated blinds are usually considered to be the original style of window covering for the conservatory. They come in many style sand colours and the material is pleated so that when you draw them, the material concertinas into a convenient bunch at the top of the window. When you open the blinds, the material straightens out and you can usually fully retract the blinds so that they can be cleaned and properly maintained.

Like the roller blind, a pleated blind can be fully opened right to the top and this leaves no visible sign of the blind in place. This provides you with unabated vistas of the exterior of your property and enables you to really benefit from the full conservatory design. If you have motorised blinds currently fitted, or you want to motorise your blinds in the future, then the pleated blind is a viable and beneficial option for you to choose.

Roller blinds offer the same unrestricted view out of the window when opened fully and they also come in many colours and materials. However, as they are not available in metal they are not always considered the best choice for conservatories except that they are among the cheapest of all blind options.

Venetian and vertical blinds utilise slats that run horizontally or vertically respectively. They are operated by a string, or strings, in the case of Venetian blinds and a twisting pole in the case of the vertical blind. They both offer flexibility so that you can choose exactly how much or how little light to let in the room and they are both available in a selection of materials that includes wood and metal as well as nylon and fabric.

Choose the blinds that will best suit your décor as well as your requirements. Consider how you will use the room, how much sun the room receives, and how easy the different types of blind are to clean. Also consider whether you will be using a motorised attachment for your blind because not all types of blind are suitable for this type of use. You can find the best looking and most beneficial form of conservatory blinds but you need to know what you are looking for first.

DIY Canvas

I think this is a wall art that can be done by anyone. :)  It is an abstract painting that doesn't require an expertise and yet can be transformed into something that's really awesome! I think my son can do it.  He's into arts and he loves to do abstract designs.  I think we just need a white canvas and some paints that would match the color of our walls.  I'm pretty excited to try this one, too! The hint is, try to make a design which would match the room in the house where you intend to place the canvas.

What do you think?

Fixing Up

Since it's always raining and kids can't simply go out on weekends, they have decided to do some quick fixing of their rooms.  Separating old stuff from new stuff and those that still can be used.  Those clothes and books that they have outgrown were kept in a covered clear plastic containers.  They have also arranged other stuff that they seldom use like badminton sets and guitar.  I told them that that was a good idea and considering that it's already rainy season in the Philippines, chances are, there would be massive flooding here and there.  So it pays to be ready.  We are fortunate that we are safe from flood for years now but we still have to take some precautionary measures like keeping things off the ground.  My daughter hung her guitar on the wall to keep it safe.  I know that it is not comparable to cheap breedlove guitars at musicians friend, hers is even cheaper (lol).  Anyway, that has a sentimental value to her and it's just right to keep it and all her things in order.

Way to go kids, you have done another great job on week end!

The Best Reasons for Choosing Raised Garden Beds

If you are a seasoned farmer you probably know what raised garden beds are, but even if you are not, don’t worry. You will know a lot about its benefits and even feel inspired to try it out by the time you finish reading this.

When put in simple words, raised-bed gardening means growing plants in a bed of soil that is three to four feet wide and is much higher than the surrounding soil. It can be anything from six inches to waist high.

This soil bed sometimes has a frame around it made of wood, rock, or concrete blocks. The concept of raised garden beds becomes much simpler if you think of your own bedroom. Your ‘floor’ is the soil and your bed is similar to the raised-bed in the garden.

The primary reason for using raised garden beds is that they can do wonders for plant growth and can even extend the growing season. This is because the soil inside the raised garden beds tend to be warm even during early spring when the soil around is much colder. Raised garden beds also provide a healthy environment suitable for microorganisms, which in turn facilitates plant growth. Plus it is an excellent way to keep weeds including lawn grasses away.

However, there is no reason to think that raised garden beds are only good for the plants. These are equally beneficial to your back and when used intelligently, can even function as your creative masterpiece embellishing your garden.

It is always recommended to use raised garden beds that are twelve inches in height. This simple step ensures that you do not have to bend as low and so spare your back from unnecessary strains and aches. This is especially advantageous to older people.

Think of using raised garden beds if you have sandy or clay soil. The best part is you don’t have to struggle with the topsoil of the entire garden. Simply fill the raised garden beds with good quality topsoil and you are all set!

Raised garden beds are excellent for keeping your garden tidy and organised. No matter how heavy the rain, you can always have your feet clean and still enjoy some fresh veggies straight from the garden. Let your creative juices flow and help you arrange these beds in new patterns that will add a new dimension to the appearance of your garden.

Whenever you are looking for raised garden beds, make sure they are made with rot-resistant lumber and material that would withstand all weather conditions.

Bamboo Decors

I love using bamboo decors at home. It does not only give my home a tropical feeling but it also gives my home a simple yet catchy appearance.  Our bathroom door has a bamboo design and we just recently installed bamboo walls to divide our vacant lot.  Half of the space was reserved for gatherings and the other half was reserved as a working area. It gives that dull space a natural appeal.

I love the fact that bamboo is a versatile item for home decors and a way cheaper too.  To increase it's life span, we can protect it by applying a coat of varnish on a regular basis.  There are so many ways to use bamboos as home decors and you will never fall short of ideas to use it as a focal point of your interior design whether in your living room, dining room, bedroom or garden.

Try to add up some white pebbles and you will have that instant tropical look!

Quick Home Improvement Solutions From One Handyman To Another

tile flooring buford
There is always a project that can make your home better. Improving a house can be intimidating, especially if you don't have a lot of money or construction experience. If those reasons apply to you, keep reading to obtain some tips for getting started.

If you're revamping the room, use light or white tile or other material.  This deflects the sun and keeps heat outside in the summer. You will be able to reduce all of your monthly energy bills by doing this.

It is important that you focus your improvement work on the visible portions of your home. Home buyers judge housing with their eyes. Old peeling paint and damaged floors can result in a lost sale. While there is a lot to do in terms of improvements that people cannot see, you have to work on the most obvious ones first and foremost.

If your door is still squeaky after trying every imaginable method to fix it, you might want to buy a new hinge. They can be found at any hardware store. Remove the current hinge and replace it with the new one that you purchased. After that, just get your hinge pieces aligned and your pins replaced.

Ceramic tile can dull and look grungy as time goes on. Vinegar and water can make the tiles look better. Grab a bucket, fill it with your solution and you can mop your floors with ease. You will likely find that the build-up of dirt has been removed and that the floor will appear as new.

Before undertaking any home improvement project that involves electricity, either to or from the project, cut the power to the affected areas. Leaving the power circuit on can increase the chance of electrocution.

The right lighting can make all the difference in a room. Bright rooms are ideal to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Installing more lights can help you improve the lighting situation in a room. The feel of the home will be better with brighter rooms.

Try using a straight wall coat rack in order to display your bracelets and necklaces. Perhaps you should not hang your most valuable jewelery. Your jewelry will bring class and style to your room and you will enjoy being able to quickly select what you want to wear. Choose some of your favorite pieces and keep those out and in reach. You might also may want to consider new tile flooring.

If possible, make home improvements immediately after noticing an issue. There are many flaws that you can easily tolerate and forget. Avoid doing this. Your home's systems are all connected together. Damage to one system can quickly spread to all of them. A problem that starts out small can grow very big in the blink of an eye.

Mini Iron Board

Why I never thought of this?  This was my first reaction when I saw this mini iron board. :)  Working away from home for 6 years, I've experienced all the inconveniences of not having all the usual home stuff that I need in any place I've stayed.  I keep moving from one place to another, so I don't normally buy things which are bulky and heavy.  But mind you, it's really difficult to iron your clothes on bed.  You wouldn't know what position to take (lol).  But after seeing this, I guess, this would be a solution to the ironing problem.  This TV tray converted to a mini iron board is such a good idea.  You can fold it and keep it any corner of your room, and since it is made of light weight material, transferring it from one place would be so easy.   I think it would be a good idea to have one. :)

4 Ways to Prevent Theft

Many people believe that just because they live in a safe in a low crime neighborhood that crime will never arrive at their door step. These people remind themselves of the strong police force and neighborhood crime watch established to protect their family and belongings. What many of these people don’t know is that neighborhoods such as this one are perfect for crime. These neighborhoods demographically tend to be filled with people with trinkets and things that thieves would love to get their hands on. Let’s explore several measures we can take to protect ourselves from theft.

1. Lock up
Just because you live in the picture perfect neighborhood doesn’t mean that you live with picture perfect neighbors. Lock your doors. Lock your windows. Lock your cars. If a thief is on the prowl through this ideal neighborhood then their first and easiest targets will be homes and vehicles with unlocked doors. Unlocked doors provide an opportunity to steal without the risk of alarms or security systems going haywire and alerting both neighbors and police about the thief’s presence. Most of the time thieves will stay away from locked belongings, homes, and automobiles in the hope for easier targets.

2. Close up
Don’t leave doors, windows, and garages open. It wasn’t too long ago when I heard of a resident in my neighborhood that had a police officer knock on his door at sunset requesting that he close his garage door. The officer was simply trying to protect this resident from being an easy target for thieves. Just because you lock your doors doesn’t mean you should leave windows cracked or garages open. Closed windows, closed doors, and closed garages communicate to a potential thief that you take measures to protect your home and car.

3. Doggy Up
Have you ever seen the “beware of dog” signs on your neighbor’s home even though you know good and well that they don’t have a dog? This sign is a brilliant psychological play against the thief’s attempt to rob you. The thieves will more than likely assume you have a dog and most thieves want to steal from easy targets. If a thief does not want to deal with watching eyes, potential time in prison, and alarm systems then the last thing they want to deal with is a loud and aggressive dog impeding their efforts. It would be better if you had an actual dog to back this sign up but if you don’t have a dog then buy this sign and make it visible.

One of the greatest aspects of living in 2013 is that we have access to the best security systems that have ever been known to man. Security systems alert local officers of a break in and have numerous features that allow you to control how you protect your home. When I chose Smith Monitoring, a McKinney home security company I was impressed with the function that allows me to monitor activity around my house through their smart phone app. Smith installed a camera outside my home as well as a viewing panel inside my home so that I can always be aware of anyone approaching my home. Being able to watch my house at any time through my smart phone also gives me a great sense of peace when I’m away from home for any amount of time.

For those having babies and toddlers at home, perhaps one of your biggest problems at home is the noise  caused by slammed doors which happens either naturally or by carelessness of your child.  Don't fret! there's an ultimate solution to that...Door Muff!

We have to face it! We can't stop those cute little angels in the house to act carelessly at times, it's all part of growing up.  So, instead of getting all the stress trying to stop the kids, why don't we address the problem in the best way possible?  This cute Door Muff which can be bought from Etsy could be your solution!  Aside from getting rid of your problem with the doors, it can provide an added attraction to the house.  I guess, we could also be a little bit more creative. Taking Care of Wooden Furniture - Let Your Wooden Dining Tables Last for Years

As you are getting back to the basics, it is time to capture a glance at the maintenance of wood furniture. Wood furniture is probably among the most common materials used for making dining tables. It takes a heavy amount of change to purchase a pleasant wooden dining table. For that reason, it is important to note that everyone would want their dining tables to look great and serve their purpose for a good long time in the future. To be able to achieve that, it would be very beneficial to read through the basics noted below.

Dust over and over again

Very small dust particles may appear to be harmless, however if they build up high enough, they can scratch the finish of the wood. Using a soft and lint-free cloth; dust the furniture at least every after one week. A cotton diaper, cheesecloth, or a cut piece of an old t-shirt can wonderfully get the task done. Avoid pledge and any other dust polish. This is because they contain silicones which can get soaked into the wood's grain and smash it up for good. As an alternative, dampen a cloth lightly with water or employ a microfiber cloth which will adhere to the particles of dust on its own.

Un-wrap the mayonnaise

If your table top has got watermark rings from wet glasses, it is possible that it is not in the wood but in the wax. Making use of mayonnaise while rubbing should be able to dig up the marks.

Take note of the placement

Wooden dining tables should not be positioned above a radiator or close to a heat-register. The temperature sways could cause damage to the wood with splitting or warping. Additionally, any extra leaves should also be stored in the vicinity of the table itself. The purpose of this is to make sure that the leaf does not warp, contract or swell different from the table. Some tables have a nifty place which can be used for storing the additional leaf under the tabletop. In case you get the leaf stored in an attic or basement, the temperature and moisture differential may possibly take its toll.

Look at humidity levels

As it is the case to all woodworks, from the flooring to the dining tables and all the other wood furniture, make an effort to keep the levels of humidity in your home in the range of 40 to 45%. Anything lower than that may possibly fracture the wood, and anything higher may possibly cause swelling of the wood. For the majority of home owners, this simply implies running a humidifier during the winters and a de-humidifier or an Air Conditioner during the summer.

Shine it up

As it was pointed out earlier, this shouldn't be done with a silicone-product. Instead shining should be done using a hard carnauba wax. Make use of two soft lint-free cloths, one for applying the wax and the other for polishing. This will capture some real nudge grease, but thankfully the task requires to only be done about two times every week.

Caring For Your Home Pets

We have two shi-tzu pets at home and they are both adorable.  They are so cute that we can't avoid playing with them every time we see them at home.  They are well loved and cared for especially by my two kids.  Since me and hubby are both working abroad, my two kids are the ones sleeping in our bedroom and guess what?  They sometimes bring along with them our shih-tzu pets.  That's why when I saw this dog bed, I thought of having one for them, too.  It really looks cute, isn't it?  I think there will not much problem as these two shih-tzu pets are having their bath regularly. (lol).

Shi-tzu's are great companies at home.  They are cute and fun to be with.  Although sometimes, I really find it hard to train and feed them, I cannot discount the fact that they are bringing great joy to the family.

Do you have one in your home, too?

Residential Roofing Replacement

St. Louis Exterior Contractors

For a lot of homeowners, the state-of the market has changed the number of time they intend to remain in the same house. One reason for it is because home values have dropped so much that many are now residing in dwellings that are worth less-than that which they are worth. Suddenly home repairs are a smart investment for homeowners who'd like to raise property values and make their dwellings are easier to-sell. The first fix that householders should look into is a roof replacement, as the roof is what shields the remainder of the homeowner's investment. For instance, it won't matter what type of paint or wallpaper a homeowner adds to each area if an old roof enables rainwater to drip down the walls and enter your house.

St. Louis Exterior Contractors

When a homeowner calls a commercial roofing firm, she or he will have to say a lot more than simply "I need a roof replacement." This post will take a gander at a number of the alternatives that are accessible to homeowners once they begin to request for pitches in order that they'll be better educated.

One major choice which will have to be produced is what sort of materials to-use in a roof replacement job. This choice will be based not only on the householder's taste, but also on where the house is found. One of the materials that householders can select from are:

  • Asphalt composition shingles: This stuff is readily obtainable and economical, but is missing in looks. There are more appealing choices and since home buyers consider "curb appeal" to become a major part when determining whether to purchase, homeowners that can manage to do better likely should.
  • Rubber, or faux slate : This stuff is really produced from recycled materials and is gaining in popularity as a result of its environmental impact and lower cost.
  • Wood shake: This shingle option is a lot more expensive, but is really appealing. The significant determining factor will be whether the homeowner can manage it.
  • Metal roofing: Metal roofing offers many advantages, including the reality that it continues longer than other roofing materials and may be installed over an existing roof. However, the stuff is hard to use and just certain businesses understand the best way to accomplish a roof replacement using metal roofing. Metal roofing materials are quite a little more pricey, so a homeowner wants to be certain he or she can manage it, while shingles are the least expensive alternative.
  • Slate roofing: This is another high end, really appealing alternative which is from the cost range-of some homeowners. One major drawback is that it really is really hard to walk on, so persons who expect to be on-the roof often to correct satellite dishes or hang Christmas decorations should take this into account.
Obviously there are a lot of alternatives for homeowner to select from, and a great commercial roofing company will have the ability to clarify the differences and make recommendations for one's building.

Our team members are St. Louis exterior contractors who are also dedicated to providing an exceptional product on every job we complete. Be it your new gutters, siding, or fiberglass windows, we know that once we complete the installation process you’ll be left completely satisfied.

Simple Money Saving And Time Through Effective Pest Control

Do you have creepy critters crawling all over the house while you sleep? Do you hear unexplainable sounds bumping around the walls and your ceiling? Pests are a very serious matter for homeowners. Unfortunately, you cannot expect for the problem to fix itself and you must take action. Continue on for helpful advice concerning ridding yourself of those pests.

A perimeter spray will discourage pests from getting too close to your home. Spray areas around your house, like the windows and doors, steps and the foundation. When spraying, look for small cracks where pests can come in. Seal these areas with caulk or another appropriate filler.

Bedbugs can be very difficult to get rid of because they have a tendency to hide. Be sure to seal off any open holes prior to attempting any extermination. By doing so, you can stop bedbugs from emerging from such places after the exterminator has left.

Keep up with leaks around your home. All pests need a water source to survive. The pests might sense there is a leak from far away. Do not let this be the cause of the pest infestation. Preventative measures can do so much.

Fleas can be very difficult to expel, but there are things that can be done to rid your home of them. The first step to effectively ridding your home of fleas is to vacuum daily, then spray with an effective flea spray. Change the bag in the vacuum cleaner immediately after sweeping the house.

Trees should not be planted close to your house if you have rat and mice problems. If there are trees too close to your house, this gives rodents access to high places such as the roof from which they can enter your home. Put the trees around 15 feet from the house.

For people having problems with bugs and other pests, a solution is closer than you may think. Try using the home improvement store as a resource and speak with the workers there. They know which treatments are effective at getting rid of various pests.

Electronic pest repellents can be very effective. The slight buzzing sound coming from being plugged in is what works. The great thing about these devices is that they are safe to use around the house. Rats and mice don't like them and will stay away from them.

Drains are a huge place for pests to reside. Inspect and clean your drains on a monthly basis by either pouring some drain cleaner or using a snake through your drains. Pests love to feast on the mold that can grow inside a clogged up drain.

Use hairspray to get rid of flying insects. Your pets can tolerate this treatment, while the pests find it lethal. The hairspray will stick to them before they can get to water or food. Bees can be dealt with in this fashion without the risk of getting stung.

Whether you rent or you're the owner, you don't want any bugs. Use the tips the above article has provided you with to permanently eliminate pests. You should not have to worry about a mouse running by when you switch the lights on. Now is the time to take action!

Top 10 Things To Consider For Home Cleaning Services

Home Cleaning Service
There are plenty of significant questions that you ought to ask a future service providers, if you're debating on whether or not it's time to engage a maid service or perhaps you should change to another maid service. You are attempting to take a weight off of your shoulders and to make your house a better, cleaner place to stay whenever you invite a maid service in your house. Unfortunately, should you employ the service you will get things stolen, broken, and / or simply not as much as your expectations. We come up with a-list of 10 hints/questions that you ought to ask a future maid service to ensure your expectations and theirs are correctly set.

1. Weekly when the same team will be sent by them for your home request the maid service. Why? Well, consistency is significant because they'll both be comfortable with your home and the way you love to get it cleaned. If the maid service cannot assure you the same workers it might be as a result of high turnover rate another variable you will need to understand upfront (perhaps they hire daily temporary workers, etc.).

2. If they're bonded request the maid service. This will offer you protection in case that you guess or capture a maid stealing from you (again, hopefully this never occurs but realizing they are bonded helps protect you).

3. If they're fully insured request the maid service. You need to ensure that the maid service will cover any accidents that may happen at your residence as a maid is cleaning. Make certain they have accountability and employee injury coverage and that their contract makes it clear they're responsible and not you.

4. Request the maid service about their worker screening practices. Do they run background checks on all their workers to ensure that they don't have criminal records? Do they perform routine drug screenings on their workers (drug abuse is the last thing you need going on in-your house).

5. Request the maid service about the cleaners they use. Do they provide the goods or do you need to provide them? They use to help you ensure you approve of them and that there aren't any issues over allergies or scents that cause issues for-you should they supply the products, which products do.

6. Request the maid service about cleaning equipment including vacuums and other things generally used-to clean the home. Do they supply their own or are you accountable and when they use your gear (this is quite rare and shouldn't be the case) what happens when they damage your equipment is damaged by them?

Professional Home Cleaning Services

7. Request the maid service for references for similar jobs. The perfect scenario is you will understand one of these present customers. However, in any case it's always great to learn from a current client. Whenever you contact the references make sure that you ask for some negative feedback too to try to keep them honest.

8. Request the maid service what their warranty or quality assurance guidelines are. What happens if you aren't content with their work? Do they complete the task to your satisfaction and come back out free of charge or do they basically wind up doing nothing?

9. Request the maid service about household tasks they will not do. Do they load and unload the dishwasher? Whether a room is so dirty to be cleaned? how do they determine These are all great things to understand in advance.

10. Ask the home maid service about their policy around holidays. What happens if your regular cleaning day falls on a vacation? Do you get skipped? Do they shift clients a day? So what can you expect? As long as you're on the issue of schedules you ought to also discover how far ahead of time you can cancel an unique cleaning just in case you're not prepared for the maid service (e.g. you have not acquired the house which is the night before they're designed to come).

Of course, cost is also a variable in selecting a maid service. Some will only come in and some maid services charge by-the area and quote cleaning for your entire house. Ensure you consider frequency as well (occasionally you will get a discount per cleanup that's significant if you have them clean weekly rather than every-other week for example). We strongly encourage you though to NOT make cost the determining factor because ultimately that's nearly a certain way to become unsatisfied with your maid service. It is best to have a great value considering all the factors above rather than only the cheapest possible maid service. There are tons of great alternatives out there so do not settle on the initial maid service that gives a quote to you, get the finest (get a quote and get the questions above to at-least two distinct service providers).

Decorating A Small Space

Whether you are living in an apartment or in a small unit condominium, the usual challenge for a homemaker is how to arrange the furniture and fixture as well as to brighten up the place without wasting any space.  Well, that's the beauty of home decorating, you can always choose the best furniture designs that could fit your space without sacrificing the overall appearance of the house.  Personally, I am more challenged to decorate a small space compared to a bigger space. Small spaces have lots of limitations and this is where your creative juices will start to flow. :)

The size of the furniture and the choice of color has an effect on how your living space would look like. It is important for us to create an illusion of a big space by adding mirrors on the walls and choose the right colors that we could mix and match to create an overall impact.

The Living Room design, as shown above made use of the appropriate size of furniture like the side tables and  bright colored garden stools that were transformed into an instant coffee table.  The relatively small size of the furniture has made it possible to move those pieces to any part of the house, so if you are just renting an apartment or a condo unit, it would be easy to pack up your things once you've decided to move into another area.

Do You Enjoy Cleaning?

Can Cleaning Be Fun?

Are you one of the 17% of the UK population who hates cleaning? Hardly surprising, considering that - if you're a woman - you spend over 12,000 hours during your lifetime cleaning! Not really a shock then that 32% of the UK population do the absolute minimum amount of housework they can get away with.

On average, women spend over 18 hours a week on cleaning, with men managing just over half as much, though 40% of men change their bed sheets weekly, as recommended by experts, with 8% doing it even more frequently! In comparison, just 2 in 5 women change their bedding every week, and 36% do it every fortnight. A shocking 17% wash their sheets every month or even less!

With such conflicting statistics that suggest men either are more efficient at cleaning, or just have really clean bedrooms, it could make you wonder why 47% of couples argue over the housework, particularly when 25% of men say they can't complete any task better than their partner!

So what are our most hated tasks? An unsurprising 30% of people hate ironing, naming it the most time-consuming task they have to complete, closely followed by window cleaning, disliked by 28%. When asked why they so disliked window cleaning, a third said it was due to the difficulty involved in doing it, and 12% due to lack of time.

Better use of your time is one reason for the growth in appliances to ease the household burden, such as dishwashers, microwaves and tumble dryers, however there's no quick way round many household chores - such as emptying the bin and cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. Add to this the growing 'green cleaning' market, with an increased awareness of the impact cleaning products have on the environment, with 69% of people who buy green cleaning products saying that they do so due to a sense of personal responsibility, and it's hardly surprising that housework comes bottom of our 'to do' list.

Around 12 percent of people in the UK hire domestic help or a cleaner, with almost 25% of those saying they hire someone simply because they just don't like to do it!

So, what do all these statistics and facts tell us? Not much we didn't know already - people don't like cleaning! However, because one bacteria can breed to produce another 8 million in just 24 hours, and over 10,000 dust mites can live in your bed, housework is a sad fact of life. There are, though, ways round it - marry someone who changes their bed sheets every week and loves cleaning windows - or ask a cleaners such as MyMaids to pay you a visit!

Dress Up Your Sink

Do you have that unwanted sink at home?  Do you feel like want to change that old open sink with a new one but you still doesn't have the budget to buy one? There's a solution!  Dress up that sink!

I was thinking of upgrading the sink inside our bathroom at home as it is open and the fittings and fixture underneath the sink is exposed. I already asked hubby to have it replaced last time but being a practical "man of the house",  he refused and told me that there's nothing really wrong with the sink except that the pipes and fittings underneath is exposed.  Actually he is right. It's just that I am a lover or beauty (lol) and can't afford to see anything not pleasing to the eyes.  So, I just obliged to what he wants and until now, we're still having that old sink in our bathroom.  It's not really worse as it seems, but wait, I didn't realized that I could also dress up that sink.

See the skirt made for the above sink?  I think it's gorgeous!  I think I would try to make one for ours, too. But since, our sink is colored blue and the overall motif of our bathroom is white and blue, perhaps I would be looking for a blue colored linen or a fabric with nice prints on it.    :)

Termite Control: Best Way to a Termite-Free Home

Termites are one of the most common problems that many homeowners have to deal with. They ruin your home through eating their way on your walls, woods, floor, sill plates, headers, and subfloors. In short, a home that is infested with termites is a serious matter that needs to be treated as soon as possible. Failure to do this can cause many dangerous effects that can lead to damaged walls and floors, weakened house foundation, and half eaten books, papers, and napkins. Since termites can fly, they can easily contaminate the food that you eat too, leading to a very unhygienic house. It is for this reason why you need termite control.

The Colonies
Termite colonies take time to group themselves together so that they can reach a size that can lead to detrimental results at home. The reproduction starts with winged termites, which are also called as the "swarmers." They will shed their wings during warm weather, drop to the ground, and pair off with a mate. They will then begin a colony, which would take five to eight years in the making. It is highly advisable that you have your home checked by a pest control service company regularly, so that termite infestation can be prevented right away.

How to Treat Termite Infestation
Luckily, there are certain things that you can do to get rid of these colonies. However, you must ensure that you have a comprehensive knowledge about building structure so that you'll know where the termites might be hiding. Termites love damp areas and humid environment, and that is why termite control usually begins during the summer. Getting rid of these swarms usually takes more than 200 gallons of termiticide solution that is carefully and strategically injected on the floor, soil, panels, ceilings, beneath concrete slabs, and foundation walls. This task alone requires a great deal of effort and time. You will also need the proper equipment and tools to efficiently treat the whole house.

There are several different types of termite control services that you might want to know about. These are as follows:
  • Fumigation Pest Control. This type of process is when your home will thoroughly be decontaminated with a specialized solution that can kill all pests that lives in your house. This also includes termites as well as other bugs. This procedure usually begins in the morning when your home will be sprayed with pesticide and then have the area completely enclosed for a couple of hours to penetrate all nooks and crevices on the walls, floors, and ceilings.
  • Termite Pest Control Treatment. This process is specifically created for termite-infested homes.
  • Termite Pre-construction Treatment. Also known as termite prevention, this procedure is done right before a house is built. A termite control will be included in the house plan. Certain soil and wall/foundation barrier treatments will be incorporated as your home is being built. This will result to a termite-free haven for a really long time.
  • Termite Post Construction Treatment. If you're house has already been built and you want to ensure that it won't get colonized by termites, not a problem because you can always opt for termite post construction pest control treatment. Dusting, foaming, and even organic treatments can be provided depending on the needs of your home.
There you have it. These are the things that you need to know about termites and how to control it. Never underestimate the gravity of this problem because these bugs can really do damage to your house. If you need a pro that can efficiently get rid of termites, call PestBusters pest control service. They are the leading termite control company in Singapore.

PestBusters – Pest control management services company in Singapore. PestBusters was founded on the mission that the company would set the standard for the Pest Control Industry. Established in 1991, the company quickly became one of the most trusted names in the hospitality.

New Designs For Vinyl Flooring

Hubby and I are thinking of replacing our floor covering in the bedrooms.  We are considering the new designs of floor vinyl covering.  I was amazed to see some vinyl designs that really resembles that of a wooden flooring.  When installed, you could hardly see the difference.  There are various reasons why we are considering vinyl covering in the bedrooms.  First, we don't want to create a lot of mess in the main living room and dining area when construction takes place.  If we opt for tile covering, there might be a lot of mess as they need to  apply concrete cement prior to tiles setting.  Other than that, compared to wood, vinyl is easier to clean and manage.  It doesn't require polishing or use extra ordinary cleaning products. It's also free from dents and cracks unlike tiles and woods.  About the cost, I think it's relatively cheaper too, not to mention that it could easily be replaced when worn out which I think with proper care will still take so many years.

All of the these factors convinced us that the modern designs of vinyl flooring that's out in the market today is still our best option in replacing our worn out floor coverings on bedrooms.

Home Away From Home

Until now, I still have fond memories of my stay in Bangkok with the family.  My children really had a great time roaming the streets of Pratunam, Petchburi Road, China town and Victory Monument.  It's good that Bangkok is having a good transportation system thus going around has never been this easy.  On one of our shopping days, we had a great time discovering Siam Paragon Mall as well as Central World.  The two places are very huge with lots of great items on sale.  Of course, you would already have an idea where I spend most f my time in those huge buildings.  Not in the ladies section of course, but in the home section. :)

I was fascinated with the furniture on display.  Lots and lots of designs to choose from. All are of good quality.  Well...if only I could bring home one of those.  I've seen some nice table aquariums too.  But since the building is very big, you could hardly get where you wanted to especially if you're not familiar with the place.  I wonder if they have position indicators there.  That would be a good idea of course. (lol)

I've also seen some IKEA products on display and as expected, you couldn't get enough of what you see.  Everything is fabulous! My day dreaming stopped when suddenly, my daughter asked me to lead her to the teens section to find a nice pair of rubber shoes.  Oh well, I have to face the fact that only clothes and shoes can be brought home and not a nice piece of furniture.  That was really a pleasant experience for me.  Some of the furniture designs, I kept in memory.  Who knows, I might be needing some of those designs in the future.

All About Water Underfloor Heating

A water underfloor heating system can be fixed beneath tiles, stone, carpeted or wooden surfaces just like the dry electric underfloor. It provides a heating option to radiators in kitchen, bathrooms and to entire home. This basically means that, a water underfloor heating system can warm up a cold floor during cold seasons like winter.

What you need to know about Water Underfloor Heating

With a water underfloor heating system, a number of tubes connected to the boiler circulate hot water all over the floor, so, as to heat the floor. Alternatively, a person can fix the water underfloor tubes, to solar water heating system, if one is available. A person will be required to check the boiler since the heat that emanate from an underfloor heating system is uniformly spread than a single radiator, this system is capable of using water at a very lower temperature, this makes it a more efficient technique of heating homes. Underfloor heating is usually associated with tiled or stone floors, but a person can even fix it in a wooden or carpeted room. An individual will only be required to ensure that the wood, carpet and the underlay is not thick as this will stops the heat from moving upwards.

How Water Underfloor Works

Water underfloor system, requires, enough room to fix the pipes, this means that one, may have to raise his floor level to accommodate the pipes. This at times is not possible, if one is retrospectively fixing the underfloor heating to an already existing kitchen or bathroom. Therefore, water-fed systems are more suited to floors that are under construction. This is because the floor can be built in way to hold the pipes, and be sufficiently insulated to make sure the heating does not escape downwards. There are different rates of efficiency and responsiveness this depends on what the pipes are set in. Individuals installing these systems are advised to use pipes together with insulated wood floor so as to have good heating results. Water underfloor heating can only be installed by a specialist or by yourself by purchasing a kit. A specialist is in a good position to advise a person on the best class of water underfloor heating system depending on the size and shape of the house. A specialist will be required to test the boiler to see what type of underfloor heating system it can support. An individual can hire an underfloor heating engineer in his area. One can also ask for referrals from friend and relatives who are aware of a qualified professional.

Water Underfloor Heating Costs

This type of heating systems is expensive to acquire and install and one will require a heating engineer to install. If, an individual is installing a new water underfloor heating system, he will be required to pay hundreds of pounds. This is one reason, which makes these heating systems expensive to install. Water underfloor heating systems are energy efficient and as a result, less to run, nevertheless, the saving number will depend on the amount of energy that an individual uses.

Graham Poole is a highly experienced product advisor for underfloor heating solutions, offering installation and product advice.

Garden Bench

Having a great passion for outdoor designs, I'm always on a look out for new and fresh ideas with two considerations in mind, that's cost and time frame involved in doing a project.  After seeing the above design,  I almost able to figure out how much roughly would I spend for this project.  Aside from that, I personally find the idea of having built in planters underneath the recycled wooden door very cute and unique.  Oh and what more? Two of the most prominent colors used here are also two of my most favorite colors, Apple Green and Orange.  I guess, I don't need to explain why the interior of my house is in bright orange and the exteriors are in shades of green (lol).

I also love those white pebbles on the floor. I love to use pebbles in my garden. That clearly explains the bed of pebbles that you would probably see when you enter my pocket garden at home.  I think I'll be adding more on my future outdoor projects.

How to Fit a Safety Hasp to a Rabbit Hutch

Recently, my daughter got her first pet rabbit. We decided that the rabbit should live outside as we have a dog which is indoors most of the time, so we bought a hutch. However, on closer inspection, the latch didn’t seem very sturdy, and there is always a risk that a fox might be able to nudge it open and get to the rabbit, so we decided to look into extra fastenings to make it extra safe. After doing a bit of research online we ordered a safety hasp which looked trickier for other animals to get into.

First, I decided on whereabouts on the hutch door to place the hasp. Too low and any small animals might be able to nudge it, so I opted to place it nearer the top of the door. I placed one side of the hasp on the door and the other on the main part of the hutch and marked the position, making sure both parts of the hasp laid flat.

Next, I marked where I would be placing the screws. It’s important not to do this too close to the edge of the hasp in case you’re a little clumsy with a drill, and make sure you’re not drilling over any fragile wood as it may break. Find a strong, reinforced piece of wood to drill the screws into on each side for the best results.

Then I had to remove the hasp and check out the markings I’d left on the wood. I used a drill to carefully drill through the wood on the door and the main hutch side to make holes for the screws. If you’re not comfortable using a drill, practice on an old piece of unwanted wood first so that you know how to control it and what to expect.

Once the holes were finished, I placed the hasp back up to the hutch and used a screwdriver to attach the hasp to the wood. When it felt secure, I opened and close the hutch a couple of times to check if it worked. Everything seemed to be in order so I decided to try the rabbit in its new home. She was extremely excited, and my daughter loved watching her explore her safe new house! With the addition of some hay, food, water and a few little toys to keep her entertained, we were all very pleased to have one happy bunny!

Collector's Items

Since I started working abroad, I suddenly get the urge to go for some collectors items.  I have seen a lot of nice stuff that could be the subject of my collection during my travels.  Currently, I am collecting some nice figurines, I got two items from Cambodia 3 from Vietnam and I am still looking for an interesting piece that I could get from Thailand.  All of my collections were put on display at my curio cabinet at home.  I am also collecting cash notes from several countries. Some, I personally acquired from my travels and some I asked from my friends and colleagues. That's the benefit of working with people of different nationalities. Some of my friends are thinking to buy silver coins as part of their collection, but If I would have a choice or rather if I am capable of, I would prefer to collect some gold jewelries or precious stones.  But of course, that would be a very expensive hobby.

Anyway, I am happy with my current collection and I hope to get some nice pieces on my next visit to Thailand.  Will keep you posted!

Collecting Rain Water For Home Use

Now that rainy season is fast approaching, I'm sure that a lot of home owners are now busy preparing their homes for the possible discomfort and destruction brought about by heavy rains and flooding. I am not an exemption!  We just had our roofing in our dirty kitchen checked, gutters cleaned and installed additional flat GI sheets to protect from massive rain.  But I guess, it would also be good if we could find some use for the rain water.  At least, we could also look at the bright side of things. :)

I've seen this awesome pic of collecting rain water and I told myself, why not?  The collected rain water could be use to water the plants, wash the car and clean the garage and it can even be use to flush the toilet.  That could save us a lot from water bills!

These plastic water containers are covered, so we could be assured that water would be kept clean and would not attract mosquitoes.  Water could be collected from the container through the installed water hose. I think that would save us a lot of time and effort.

What do you think?

Termite Infestations' Prevention and Treatment

There is a high diversity of termite species in the tropics of the Asia Pacific region. They have an important role of decomposition in the forest region but can be a menace in everyday life when they infest buildings and cause major economic losses if pest control  measures have not been put to place. There are three groups of termites; the subterranean, which depends on soil and forage under mud tubes, the damp-wood which feeds on decaying wood and the dry-wood, which does not depend on soil moisture. The Subterranean termite is the worst structural termite pest among the three groups followed by the dry wood termites.

Termites infest specific areas of buildings, mostly, doors and window frames, wooden floors, bathrooms, roofs and ceilings, skirting and baseboard areas and built in cabinets. Termite infestation is normally detected after a lot of damage has already been done because of their camouflaged behaviour. A common sign of the infestation is mud tubes on the area that has been infested. Termite infestation causes much damage on buildings, furniture and underground cables resulting in much economic losses and high risks of accidents in the buildings around the globe and especially in Singapore. This calls for immediate application of termite control measures in areas most prone to the attacks.

To prevent termite infestation, it is advised that gardens should be kept as far away from the residence as possible as this could ease the access of garden termites to the timber inside the house. Termites are attracted to humid areas, thus any water leaks in the house, and water accumulation below the exterior of the house should be prevented as a measure of termite control. Extreme caution should be taken while making timber additions to the house and one should ensure the use of treated timber especially if it will come into contact with the soil. Constant monitoring of the yard and timber in the residence should be done for any signs of termites, and if possible, chemical and physical barriers should be places to prevent termites.

Termite infestation can be treated by placement of baits and barriers, fumigation and liquid treatment. Baits are set at the home, 3 feet from the foundation and about 10 feet apart. Baits have chemicals and may take up to months to kill the termites depending on the chemical type in the bait and the individual termite. Termite treatment by barriers involves making trenches around the building's foundation and pouring chemicals that kill termites into the soil that bar the termites from passing through prompting them to move to a different area. In liquid treatment, non repellent insecticides, that are not detectable by the termites are sprayed on affected areas and are also passed to the colonies by the termites themselves. In extreme infestation, fumigation is sought as a way of pest control where a tent is placed around the household and poison placed in cracks of the house killing the termites in at most 72 hours.

The best method to avoid the infestation of termites is prevention. However, after the confirmation of termite infestation, a corrective measure involving professional services is recommended. PestBusters is an ISO 9001, 14001 and OSHAS 18001 accredited pest control institution in Singapore that ensures that their clients get the best professional services at friendly prices. Termite control in prevention and also managing infestation is best done by a qualified professional.
