My family certainly loves dogs and when we say love, we treat them like a real family member. We provide them all their needs from foods to clothes to beds and toys. Talking about dogs brings me a lot of good memories. I previously own a small breed dog who is as adorable as a doll. He stays inside the house and follows me everywhere I go. He sleeps in my own room, too. Unfortunately, he left me earlier than expected and it left me with so much pain. It took years before I finally moved on but until now, I still fondly remembers him and imagines him in every corner of my house. I don't have regrets though as we had lots of good memories together. Deep in my heart I know how much he loves me and I knew that he felt the same way, too. Until this day, I haven't gotten myself a new dog. Not that I don't want to, but I guess I'm not yet ready for another commitment.
For those who are planning to get a dog, here's a list of what a responsible dog owner should know:
Commitment
This is what I consider to be the most important in having a dog. Do you commit yourself to assume the role of being a dog owner? Are you ready to devote a portion of your time, energy and money? If you answer yes to all these, then you are now ready to consider adopting or bringing home a dog.
Shelter
Adopting a dog does not only mean putting it in one corner of your yard. You have to make sure they are staying in a comfortable place rain or shine. If you do not want to allow the dog to run freely around your house or backyard, then you must a least provide it with an adequate and comfortable cage.
Foods and Treats
How much are you willing to spend for this? Traditionally, dogs are just being fed with left over foods from our dining table. Well, that seemed to be practical when you want to save on cost but on second thoughts, making sure that you feed them with the right amount of nutritious foods would help you save on vet fees, lab tests and medicines should they get sick. Feeding them with nutritious dog foods and treats will help them grow healthy and alert. There's a lot that you can find at www.healthy-chews.com. They offer a variety of treats that you could choose from. You will surely find one that would best fit your breed of dog.
Playtime and Other Activities
When I said that you need to devote time and energy to your dogs, this is what I actually meant. This is very crucial if you want your dogs to stay in tip top shape. Just like our own children, they need such activities to ensure that they get their daily dose of exercise necessary for them to stay active and alert. It is also during this time that you can actually teach them some tricks. Who knows, you might discover that your dogs are smarter that what you think they are! It will also be a good bonding experience between you and your dogs.
Regular Check ups and Vaccines
Dogs generally have a shorter life span compared to humans, so it is important that we maximize the time that they could spend with us. Make sure they get the right amount of vaccines so we can protect them to be infected with diseases. Bring them to your trusted Veterinarians for regular check ups to ensure that they are healthy and strong.
Grooming
Proper grooming is necessary to ensure that your dogs are clean and healthy. Give them regular baths, cut their nails, brush their teeth and buy them efficient hair care products. If you don't have time to do this, you can opt to bring them to professional groomers. Giving them vitamins or food supplements will also be good for their total wellness.
Owning a dog is not as easy as we thought but the warmth, love, happiness and loyalty that they would give us in return is beyond measure.
